The Notre Dame offense put together a tremendous performance against the Purdue Boilermakers during the team’s 66-7 victory last weekend. The engine for that offensive onslaught was the running game, which included 364 rushing yards and six touchdowns. That included a stellar 8.5 yards per carry as a team.

One of the big contributors to that output was running back Jadarian Price, who had 86 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries. Price was available for media availability on Tuesday, and was asked about quarterback Riley Leonard and his performance. He had quite the comparison for the talented signal caller.

He surprised me with those broken tackles. There was one where he was going into the end zone and stiff armed the guy. He looked like a running back. We were joking on the bus and calling him Lamar Leonard. He’s an athletic guy.

Being compared to someone like Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson is quite the comparison, but Leonard showcased his athleticism big time against the Boilermakers. Despite only playing one half of football, the former Duke signal caller rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns. He did so on only 11 carries, averaging a healthy 9.1 yards per carry.

There is no question that the Irish passing offense will have to get better, but the run game sure is explosive. Leonard is a big part of that, showing just how special of an athlete he is.
