Greenwich Country Day defensive end Mekai Brown visits Ohio Stadium on the day of the Ohio State Buckeyes football game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Nov. 22, 2025.

Notre Dame football welcomed Charlie Partridge as their new defensive line coach this offseason, respected as one of the very best coaches and developers in all of college football. Partridge is also considered to be one of the best recruiters around, as well, which should only increase with the Fighting Irish logo and head coach Marcus Freeman now backing him. It is early, but the Irish fanbase should be excited about the defensive line class that the program could put together in the 2027 recruiting class.

One of the early names to know is 2027 Greenwich (Conn.) Country Day star pass rusher Mekai Brown, a player who has quickly turned into a priority for Notre Dame in recent weeks. Having never been to South Bend yet, getting the Connecticut native on campus is the top priority. Brown has solidified a trip to Notre Dame on April 24. He will also be visiting Florida, UNC, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Penn State, South Carolina, Kentucky, and UCLA this spring.

As you can tell, there is high demand for Brown right now. The key for the Irish staff is going to be to impress during that trip and get Brown back for an official visit later this offseason. There is obviously interest on Brown’s side, but we won’t know just how much until after that trip. Expect Partridge, Freeman, and Co. to keep pushing hard until he does make it to campus.

Mekai Brown’s recruiting background

Brown is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Brown currently sits as the No. 57 overall player, the No. EDGE, and the No. 1 player in the state of Connecticut for the 2027 recruiting class. This is a toolsy player with all the upside in the world.

It should be no surprise that a long list of impressive programs is pursuing Brown right now. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, USC, Florida State, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Maryland, UNC, UCLA, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Pitt, Boston College, Syracuse, and Rutgers, among others.

At 6-7 and 230 pounds, Brown is a high upside pass rusher who is widely considered one of the most talented defensive ends in the country. As a sophomore in 2024, the Connecticut native managed to collect 36 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and seven sacks. Brown also recorded two forced fumbles, broke up two passes, and he also recorded two safeties.
