Notre Dame football is currently pursuing some of the top defensive linemen in the 2027 recruiting class. With head coach Marcus Freeman and new defensive line coach Charlie Partridge working together, there is no reason to believe that the Fighting Irish won’t once again put together an elite group up front.

Freeman and Co. threw that hat in the ring for one of the biggest risers in the 2027 recruiting class this offseason. Houston (Texas) Langham Creek defensive lineman Ezekiel Ayangbile has seen his offer list expand quickly this offseason, and you can add Notre Dame to it. This is an extremely interesting football player who brings a lot of upside to the table.

The Irish are in a good spot with several talented defensive linemen, including Brayden Parks, David Folorunsho, and Abraham Sesay. Who knows what this offer to Ayangbile will mean for Notre Dame when all is said and done. Perhaps the Irish staff feels good about their chances, but it is way too early to tell right now. Whether the Fighting Irish can get him to South Bend will determine what exactly the level of interest truly is.

While Notre Dame doesn’t hold a defensive line commitment right now, it is positioning itself in a strong spot to land a tremendous haul.

Ezekiel Ayangbile’s recruiting background

Ayangbile is considered to be a four-star player by nearly every major recruiting background, the exception being ESPN, which has him rated as a three-star right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, the Texas native currently sits as the No. 241 overall player, the No. 25 defensive lineman, and the No. 37 player from the state of Texas for the 2027 recruiting class. Those rankings have continued to rise throughout the offseason.

A long list of impressive programs has been pursuing Ayangbile over the last several months. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, Miami, Nebraska, Missouri, Kentucky, Arizona State, TCU, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, Pitt, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt, SMU, Houston, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, UNC, Baylor, Stanford, Cal, Duke, and Northwestern, among others.

As a junior at Langham Creek this past season, Ayangbile put together a tremendous campaign. In ten games, the 6-3, 270-pound managed to collect 50 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks. Ayangbile also had seven more quarterback hurries and a blocked field goal. He is a tantalizing combination of explosiveness, size, and absurd potential.
