Top Notre Dame targets who could be on commit watch this weekend during massive recruiting weekend for the battle against USC
There are several Notre Dame recruiting targets who could be on commit watch while visiting for the USC game.
With their massive matchup against rival USC this weekend, Notre Dame football is hoping to put together a tremendous performance on the field Saturday night. Between the game against Texas A&M and this one, these home matchups also provide a huge opportunity on the recruiting trail. Head coach Marcus Freeman and his Fighting Irish staff are hoping to also have a tremendous recruiting performance this weekend as well, and they will be hosting a long list of impressive 2027 and 2028 targets.
That includes 2027 McKeesport (Pa.) High School five-star running back Kemon Spell, who just recently decommitted from Penn State following the dismissal of head coach James Franklin. Notre Dame looks like a school that is going to have a great chance with Spell. He isn’t, however, the only talented running back that will be on campus. The Irish will also be hosting Chandler (Ariz.) Basha star Noah Roberts.
Perhaps the top player who will be on campus is 2027 Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic pass rusher DJ Jacobs. The 6-5, 225-pound defensive end is making his return trip to South Bend, and also has a personal relationship with Irish quarterback commit Teddy Jarrard. Fellow dynamic pass rusher Chris Whitehead will also be on campus this weekend. The Chesterfield (Va.) Lloyd C. Bird star is one of the more highly coveted overall players in the class.
Those are just a couple of the headliners for what should be a really impressive weekend of visitors. There will also be some top prospects who could very well be on commit watch during this visit. Here are a few of those names to know.
Commit Watch
OT James Halter – Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic
Notre Dame has done an incredible job with Notre Dame legacies in recent years, and that doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. Halter’s father played for the Irish in the late 1980s-early 90s, and that familiarity has helped a ton. The 6-5, 270-pound offensive lineman has upside to play either offensive tackle or inside at guard on the next level. Don’t be surprised if he joins the class sooner rather than later.
CB Xavier Hasan – Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons
An elite cover man in the 2027 recruiting class, Notre Dame has done an outstanding job in the recruitment of Hasan so far. The 6-0, 180-pound cornerback is a really gifted mover with worlds of upside. This could be a somewhat surprising early decision player, especially if the Irish staff knocks this visit out of the park. They are leading the pack so far.
TE Seneca Driver – Danville (Ky.) Boyle County
At 6-7 and 235 pounds, Driver is an impressive tight end prospect with a ton of mismatch upside. He is also the nephew of former Notre Dame running back Tony Diver. The Fighting Irish have put themselves in a great position with several talented tight ends in the 2027 class, so some will have to make some early decisions to preserve their spot. Between Driver and Missouri standout Jack Brown, I wouldn’t be shocked to see one of them pop this weekend.
WR Anthony Roberts – Rolesville (N.C.) High School
There was some big news this week when it was announced that 2027 running back Amir Brown decommitted from his UNC pledge, just in time for his visit to Notre Dame this weekend. Funny enough, his teammate Anthony Roberts will also be making the trip. The Fighting Irish have been putting themselves in a great spot with the 6-2, 185-pound pass catcher, and he is a player they certainly want in the class.
