Notre Dame football came out on fire this week in the transfer portal, officially signing several top targets. One of the most interesting acquisitions on Monday was former Ohio State wide receiver Quincy Porter. After playing in five games in 2025, the former five-star recruit carries three years of eligibility heading to South Bend and loads up upside.

We have seen Notre Dame value the boundary wide receiver position at a high level. That includes having gone to the portal in each of the last two seasons for Beaux Collins and Malachi Fields. For the third straight season, this Irish offense has needed to prioritize the position. There is a strong argument that Porter is the most talented of that group, on top of being the youngest, as well.

When was the last time that Notre Dame had a talented and high-upside boundary receiver who also had three years of eligibility remaining? While the Irish had to acquire Porter via the portal, they now have a multi-year option in that position. There may be a bit of a boom or bust feel to Porter in 2026, but the future of the boundary position is as strong as it has been in several years. This is a monumental win by Freeman and Co.

Quincy Porter’s career background

Porter was considered to be a consensus top-100 player by each of the major recruiting platforms coming out in the 2025 recruiting class. On the 247 Sports Composite rankings, the New Jersey native ended up rated as a five-star, the No. 23 overall player, the No. 5 wide receiver, and the No. 1 player from the state of New Jersey for the 2025 class.

There was a long list of impressive suitors pursuing Porter. Some of his top offers included the Fighting Irish, the Buckeyes, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, Miami, Florida, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Penn State, Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Pitt, Illinois, Boston College, Michigan State, Washington, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Minnesota, UNC, Maryland, Syracuse, Duke, Stanford, and Rutgers, among several others.

During his career at Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic, Porter hauled in an impressive 133 receptions for 2,624 yards and 38 touchdowns in three seasons. That’s an average of 19.7 yards per reception, an incredible average for a wide receiver standing at 6-4 and 210 pounds. Only playing in five games for the Buckeyes this past season, the talented pass catcher hauled in just four receptions for 59 yards.
