The college football calendar gives teams that compete in the College Football Playoff no help with outside things to handle during the biggest games. The Ohio State Buckeyes saw that firsthand last week between offensive coordinator Brian Hartline taking his first head coaching job and National Signing Day coming days before the Big Ten Championship.

Now, days after losing the Big Ten to the Indiana Hoosiers, the Buckeyes have taken another loss to a team from the state of Indiana.

Four-star 2027 Ohio CB Ace Alston picks Notre Dame over Ohio State

The Buckeyes were in the mix to land a major recruit on Tuesday but the Ohio talent has chosen to leave the Buckeye state. Four-star Anderson (OH) CB Ace Alston has picked Notre Dame over the Buckeyes, Missouri, and Indiana. Alston is the No. 2-ranked player in the state of Ohio and a big-time talent who is leaving the state.

The 2027 recruit has north of 40 offers to his name already and the majority of major programs have extended an offer. Alston is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback from the Cincinnati area, who is rated as the No. 115 player in the country and No. 11 cornerback, per 247 Sports Composite rankings. Alston’s last visit to Columbus was the season opener against the Texas Longhorns back on Aug. 30.

Ohio State has seven commitments so far in the class of 2027 and the No. 4 class. The Buckeyes don’t yet have a cornerback committed for 2027 after landing three in the class of 2026. Ohio State will bring in Jordan Thomas, Jay Timmons, and Kamari Bing as freshmen next season. Losing Alston is a loss for the Buckeyes, but there’s plenty of time to make up for it in the 2027 class.
