Brian Hartline has given a former Ohio State football star a job on South Florida’s coaching staff after leaving the Buckeyes
A former Buckeye is entering the coaching world with some help from Brian Hartline.
The Ohio State Buckeyes losing Brian Hartline at the end of the regular season ahead of the postseason had an impact. There’s no denying Hartline’s departure had an impact down the stretch, the question is just how much.
Hartline taking his first head coaching job at South Florida came with him taking a couple of Buckeye players with him. Former Ohio State EDGE C.J. Hicks and WR Bryson Rodgers both went to USF from the transfer portal.
Now Hartline is taking another former Buckeye wideout, but it comes as an addition to the coaching staff.
Former Ohio State WR K.J. Hill is joining South Florida’s coaching staff
South Florida has announced its offensive staff under Hartline and it contains former Ohio State standout K.J. Hill. Hill played four seasons from 2016-2019 and was the career leader in receptions at Ohio State with 201 catches until JT was broken by Emeka Egbuka.
Additionally, former Ohio State offensive lineman Toby Wilson is an assistant offensive line coach, and the son of former Ohio State assistant Kevin Wilson.
Hill had 2,332 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Hill’s best season came in 2018 when he had 885 receiving yards in Hartline’s second season with the program. Hill went on to be a seventh-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers and played in 21 games over two seasons.
The two former Buckeyes will join former Ohio State assistant Tim Beck and graduate assistant Mike Sollenne. Hartline tapped into his roots to bring this staff together, which includes his brother Mike as the quarterbacks coach.
A cool story for Hill, who is now starting up his coaching career under Hartline. Hill is just 28 years old and was a standout for the Buckeyes as both a wide receiver and special teams player. Don’t be surprised if he ends up a good coach, too.
