Brian Hartline has had a busy few weeks with taking his first head coaching job just days before the Ohio State Buckeyes played the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship. Ohio State ended up losing that game 13-6, and then was named the No. 4 seed in the College Football Playoff.

Since that loss to Indiana, not only has Hartline been continuing to prepare for the CFP with the Buckeyes, but he’s had to start his duties with South Florida too. As Hartline continues to put his coaching staff together, another former Buckeye is joining him.

Former Ohio State offensive line coach heading to South Florida

According to Pete Nakos of On3, former Ohio State offensive line coach Mike Sollenne has been hired as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at USF. Sollenne joins former Buckeyes assistant coach Tim Beck on the USF staff, who will be the offensive coordinator for the Bulls. Sollenne is coming over from UNLV where he spent this past season as the offensive line coach.

Sollenne spent the three seasons with Ohio State as an assistant offensive line coach beginning in 2022. He earned his first offensive line coaching job with UNLV after last season and is one of the up-and-coming offensive line coaches in college football. This move should come as no surprise, as Hartline sticks with some familiarity for a key role on his new staff that he is putting together.

Hartline remains with the Buckeyes in Arlington, Texas as they prepare to play the Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday. A loss for Ohio State would mean that Hartline ends his time in Columbus with two straight losses. The pressure is undoubtedly high on the Buckeyes to get it done in the Cotton Bowl.
