July is going to be a big month for the college football landscape without any games actually being played.
The return of the college football video game after a 10-year hiatus has everyone talking about it and we’ll surely hear a ton more about it when it releases in mid-July.
Ohio State linebackers coach James Laurinaitis is a former college football standout and NFL player who is looking forward to the game coming back for the first time in a decade.
“I don’t plan on getting a system. I don’t know what PlayStation we’re on now,” Laurinaitis said on a recent airing of Bishop and Friends on 97.1 the Fan. “We could be on … are we on five? That sounds great. I’m sure they have one in the Woody [Hayes Athletic Center]. I’m almost positive they have one in the Woody. They’ll get the game there and then I’ll have to teach these young kids a lesson.”
Quinshon Judkins is on one of the covers, he is the only Buckeye featured on the two covers that we’ve been shown thus far. There are no known players for Ohio State that have decided to opt-out and not be in the game.
For Laurinaitis, this game release brings up older memories, including beating his former teammate and Notre Dame’s current head coach.
“I was insane at the game, I just want to put that out there. I also want to put out there that I used to destroy Marcus Freeman in the game,” Laurinaitis said. “Marcus used to get really upset because my speed was better than him. I said, ‘Listen, don’t blame me, blame the nerd who made it.’ But yeah, I think I have to teach these guys a lesson.”
Interestingly enough, Freeman brought Laurinaitis onto his staff at Notre Dame before he joined the Buckeyes as a graduate assistant in 2022. He served in the same role at Ohio State in 2023 before taking over linebackers for the current season that is approaching.
It appears that Laurinaitis is just like the rest of us, he can’t wait to play the new video game based on college football. In the process of doing that, he plans to take it to some of his current players.
