The Ohio State Buckeyes won’t be back in action until Dec. 31 when they take on the winner of Miami and Texas A&M in the College Football Playoff

Leading up to then, it isn’t just game preparation that the Buckeyes will be focused on. Recruiting never really stops and the Buckeyes are trending toward adding a key player this week

Ohio State predicted to land four-star 2027 LB Quinton Cypher over Alabama, Georgia

Recruiting experts Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of Rivals have both predicted that the Buckeyes will land the four-star linebacker from North Carolina. Cypher has Alabama, Georgia, and Miami in his final schools list along with the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker is set to make his decision on Friday.

Cypher would mark the third commitment on the defensive side of the ball for the Buckeyes in the 2027 class that currently has seven commitments. Cypher is the No. 11 linebacker in the country and No. 192 overall player, per 247 Sports Composite.  Ohio State has four-star S Eli Johnson and three-star S Angelo Smith currently committed to play in Columbus. According to 247 Sports, the Buckeyes currently have the No. 4-ranked class in 2027 early on.

James Laurinaitis has the Buckeyes’ linebacker room in a good spot

Ohio State has all but wrapped up its 2026 class with 27 commitments so far. The Buckeyes added Cincere Johnson and CJ Sanna in the 2026 class and both are signed to play in Columbus next fall. The continued development of linebackers under James Laurinaitis will be key with Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese both likely off to the NFL after this season. Players like Payton Pierce, Riley Pettijohn, and TJ Alford will be looking to fill in next season.

The Buckeyes offered Cypher back in Aug. of 2024 and he was on campus for a visit back on November 1. Now, the Buckeyes look to be just days away from landing the talented defender from North Carolina.
