Ohio State Buckeyes fans have reason to smile—Ohio is a football state through and through, and it’s about to add another professional football team.

Cleveland and Cincinnati are home to the state’s two NFL teams, despite Columbus being the largest city in Ohio. Now, another pro football league is looking to capitalize on the strong football culture in Columbus by expanding into the rapidly growing city.

News broke late Tuesday evening that Columbus is expected to land a UFL team, as the league undergoes a major reshuffling with multiple franchises relocating. Teams are reportedly moving out of Michigan, Houston, Birmingham, and Memphis.

Columbus will be getting a team along with Boise, Orlando, and Lexington. It appears the UFL is aiming to tap into passionate fan bases in specific college towns. Boise State, Ohio State, and Kentucky are located in three of the cities set to receive UFL franchises.

This is a major move for the UFL, though it has not been officially announced yet. One big question is where the Columbus UFL team will play. Ohio Stadium is likely too large for the league’s needs, so it remains to be seen what venue will be used. The team name will also need to be decided.

Bringing a team to Columbus opens the door for former Buckeyes who didn’t make the NFL—or are trying to break in—to return and continue their football careers. Fans in the 614 will certainly welcome another football team coming to town.
