The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to be big-game hunting in the recruiting sphere, and now one major target has reclassified. 5-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart will now be part of the 2025 recruiting class instead of the 2026 class.
Stewart, who has previously called a Buckeyes scholarship offer one that he "wanted for a long time," was at this last Ohio State spring game. He's previously raved about the program and planned on coming to Columbus for the matchup against Michigan in November.
“I really love it,” Stewart said about the Buckeyes' program. “It's a great school, great academics. I'm just looking forward to the coaching.”
“I feel like I could fit perfectly in the defense,” Stewart said. “With the technique Coach Johnson’s teaching, and me being the person I am, my second effort, I want it more than a lot of these kids out here… And with Coach Johnson's mindset, we'll do great things together.”
Originating from Edna Karr in Reserve, Louisiana, Stewart is a top recruit with several prestigious programs vying for his commitment.
He currently holds the No. 3 spot for defensive linemen in his class, and he's the top prospect out of Louisiana, securing the No. 19 position nationally. Stewart has garnered significant interest from notable schools, including LSU, Oregon, and USC, though other teams may also join the race for his commitment.
On3 predicts that Stewart will likely choose LSU, but challenges remain, particularly with concerns about whether the defensive line coach, Larry Johnson, will stay with the program due to his advancing age. Stewart's potential addition to the Ohio State Buckeyes would significantly enhance their 2025 class, which already includes six defensive linemen.
His commitment would undoubtedly make him a standout among his peers. The timeline for Stewart's decision remains open, but his reclassification means the Buckeyes could receive his decision earlier than anticipated.
