The first two games of the College Football Playoff have not been a test for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

That is likely to change on Friday when the Buckeyes play Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Whoever takes the game will get either Penn State or Notre Dame in the National Championship.

After big wins over Tennessee and Texas, a lot of momentum is going toward the Buckeyes to win it all. One ESPN analyst recently predicted who makes the National Championship and Buckeye Nation will approve.

"I'll say Notre Dame wins it 23-20 [and] I’m going to say Ohio State wins the game 35-28." ESPN’s Rece Davis said. "So, I've got Ohio State and Notre Dame in the national championship game, which everybody could live with."

Ohio State scoring 35 points on an elite Texas defense should be enough to get the job done, as long as their defense keeps playing at the level they are. Jahdae Barron is a real problem in the defensive backfield for the Longhorns and a player that the Buckeyes will have to be ready for. Turnovers may be the difference in this game.

The Buckeyes have been operating well on offense with quarterback Will Howard crossing 300 yards passing in each of the last two games. Freshman star Jeremiah Smith has been the show on offense for Ohio State with four touchdowns through two games of the CFP.

Ohio State would likely rather see the Fighting Irish over Penn State, who the Buckeyes saw earlier this season and defeated 20-13 on Nov. 2. It is hard to beat a team twice and that may be why Notre Dame is a better matchup.

An Ohio State vs. Notre Dame National Championship would be quite the battle between two historical teams to the landscape of college football. The two teams played in 2023 when Ohio State held on 20-17.
