Final Score Predictions for Ohio State vs. Minnesota: Buckeyes set to host the Gophers in a night game at The Shoe
Game day is a couple of days away and the final predictions are in for Ohio State vs. Minnesota.
The Ohio State Buckeyes opened up Big Ten play last week with a road win over the Washington Huskies. Ohio State allowed just one score in that game and came alive in the second half to remain the No. 1 team in the country. Back at home in Week 6, Ohio State is hosting Minnesota in a night game in Columbus. Fans have wanted home night games in conference play, and here is one to start the month of October.
Ahead of the game, the crew here at A to Z Sports’ Ohio State has some predictions on how this one is going to go.
Ohio State and Minnesota series facts
- The Buckeyes are 22-1 all-time against the Golden Gophers and their last win came in 2023 by a score of 37-3.
- Ohio State has won 13 straight games against Minnesota and their last loss came in 2000.

Ohio State 38, Minnesota 14
Ohio State impressed me with what was an 18-point win on the road in Julian Sayin’s first road start in Washington. The Buckeyes’ defense showed they can travel and be the same unit and the offense found its footing as the game went on. Heading into the game against Minnesota, the Buckeyes are favored to win by at least three scores at home and I think they’ll do that. Home night games aren’t all that common in The Shoe and it should be a great environment for the team against a Big Ten opponent.
Minnesota has a newcomer at QB too with Drake Lindsey and he’s been impressive this season. Ohio State making him uncomfortable early will be the key to this game and could give them the ability to put this one away early. The Buckeyes move to 5-0 on the season in Week 6. – Brandon Little
Ohio State 34, Minnesota 10
While Washington walked away with its head held high by keeping things close with Ohio State for almost three quarters, the reality about this Buckeyes team became apparent. They don’t feel the need to run up the score or open the offense until it’s truly needed, and they’re more than content with relying on a historically good defense to grind out games. Considering Ohio State scored 24 points on six drives before running out the clock, including a turnover on downs in the red zone, this explosive unit is willing to bet on itself.
Minnesota has a solid resume, much like Washington did. Quarterback Drake Lindsey has been excellent, and playmakers Javon Tracy and Jalen Smith give him two big-play merchants to target. Pass-rusher Anthony Smith has already reached 4.5 sacks, too, so the Gophers will be chippy. It won’t matter, though. The Buckeyes’ suffocating front seven is proving to be uncrackable, and the Gophers may be without star running back Darius Taylor and won’t have backup AJ Turner for the matchup. Minnesota can make things uncomfortable by limiting possessions, but this Ohio State squad hasn’t panicked yet. – Ian Valentino
