As of this writing the Ohio State Buckeyes now have the highest rated 2025 recruiting class in the nation. Ryan Day and his staff continue to dominate on the recruiting trail, but their momentum all began after they added one crucial five star back in January: cornerback Devin Sanchez.

Since getting a hard commit from Sanchez the Buckeyes have signed 10 more blue chip recruits and that's only going to continue now. Sanchez just absolutely annihilated the competition at the OT7 flag football championships as he helped lead South Florida Express to the tournament victory. Sanchez' confidence, swagger, and fervent commitment to the Buckeyes has been just as important to the 2025 recruiting class build as star quarterback Tavien St. Clair. But what makes him so special? Let's just dive into this weekend's action to find out.

Devin Sanchez' elite skill set

Several of SFE's top playmakers had incredible performances throughout the flag football tournament on both sides of the ball, but Devin Sanchez was the most impressive of them all.

On every single play, Sanchez plays with a "my ball" mentality where he truly acts as if he's the receiver instead of the defensive back. One of his greatest traits is mirroring receivers, then positioning his body in a way that gives him a shot at the ball almost every single time. His interception on the first day against Team Toa shows this perfectly (in the post below from Buckeye Nut).

But what's really beautiful about Sanchez' game is that even when he doesn't manage to get in perfect position he has incredible hands to make a play anyway. This showed up throughout his high school career, whether it was sticking in a hand late to break up a pass or snag an interception, his active and aggressive hands made impressive plays left and right.

His incredible high-point interception against Fleaux on the second day of OT7 action was one of the best plays of the entire tournament and showcased his arrogant hands well (as you can see below).

After embarrassing multiple quarterbacks on day two of the tournament he was chosen as On3 Sports' MVP of the day, proving his five star status is more than warranted. Charles Power and Cody Bellaire of On3 broke down some of his performance (among others) really well. Sanchez was just simply all over the place, playing with anticipation, taking away his side of the field.

Sanchez' final day didn't go quite as perfectly as the first two, but he still played a critical roll in winning the championship for South Florida Express as they cruised to victory over the Coastline Stars in the finals. The Buckeyes and their 2025 recruiting class hype is only going to grow now that Sanchez (among other Buckeyes commits) continue to wow in the offseason. Expect Sanchez to continue playing a pivotal role as a player recruiter for Ryan Day in the coming months of recruiting season.
