The Ohio State Buckeyes answered their biggest question during coaching carousel season by hiring Arthur Smith as the next offensive coordinator.

Just like players jump in the transfer portal, coaches finding new jobs takes place post-season at a high rate. Another recent move with an Ohio State connection is former Buckeyes linebackers coach Al Washington leaving Notre Dame for the Miami Dolphins.

This is where it gets even more interesting.

Former Buckeye Tuf Borland floated for a strong college football job at Notre Dame

A to Z Sports’ Ryan Roberts has listed former Ohio State linebacker and Wisconsin assistant linebackers coach Tuf Borland as a name to know for the open linebackers job at Notre Dame. Borland played at Ohio State from 2016 to 2020.

Borland landed under former Ohio State coach Luke Fickell at Wisconsin as a graduate assistant. The former Buckeyes standout linebacker has been helping with linebackers in Madison since then. Ohio State just brought in former Wisconsin LB Christian Alliegro, and he was coached in part by Borland this past season with the Badgers.

While Borland didn’t have much of a pro career, he’s quickly becoming a defensive assistant to know coming up in the college football world.

Tuf Borland had a strong playing career at Ohio State

Borland spent five seasons at Ohio State after he was recruited as a four-star linebacker out of Illinois. The former Buckeye played in just two games as a true freshman before contributing for four straight seasons.

The best season for Borland came in 2018 when he was a redshirt sophomore with 67 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. Borland recorded 229 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, two interceptions, and a pair of forced fumbles in 51 games in Columbus.
