If Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish need any added motivation for their showdown against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national championship game, they received some this week from former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray.

Murray said this week on The Players Lounge that he doesn't believe Notre Dame will be able to keep the game "close" against Ohio State.

Murray suggested that the game could turn out like Georgia's 65-7 win against TCU in the 2022 national championship game.

"I am worried about a small version of UGA vs TCU coming to your TV on Monday night," said Murray. "I do think that I am worried that Ohio State could get up early and then Notre Dame tries to play catch up and they're just not capable of doing it. All of a sudden, Riley [Leonard] is throwing two picks [and it's] game over. And it's like 35 to 7 at half time — it could happen that fast. I mean, honestly, they've (OSU) done it the entire playoff. Besides, obviously the Texas game last week. But they are capable of scoring fast, so I do not think that it will be close. But I do like Marcus Friedman, so I hope he does keep it close, somehow, some way."

There's no doubt that Ohio State will be the most talented team on the field on Monday night. But I don't think we can overlook Notre Dame and just assume this game will be a blowout. The Irish have been proving the doubters wrong for the last month. And Ohio State showed earlier this season that they're capable of having a letdown game. I don't necessarily think that's what's going to happen on Monday night in Atlanta, but it's certainly a possibility.

Freeman will have his team ready to go. They might not leave the field as the winning team on Monday night (I agree with picking the Buckeyes to win the game), but I don't think it'll be a blowout like Murray is suggesting.
