Former Ohio State Buckeyes star just entered the college football coaching world following a strong NFL career
A former national champion with the Buckeyes is now coaching under Deion Sanders at Colorado.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have a large alumni base in the NFL and now it’s even bleeding into the coaching world.
Vonn Bell was a star safety at Ohio State from 2013 through 2015, then went on to play for nine seasons in the NFL. Now, Bell is starting his coaching career.
Vonn Bell is heading to coach under Deion Sanders at Colorado
Bell played 17 games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024 and that was the end of his career. The former Buckeye is now set to be a safeties coach at Colorado to jumpstart his coaching career. Landing a position coach job at a Power Four school is a great start for Bell.
The former Buckeye was with Colorado in 2024 as a defensive analyst, though it wasn’t a full-time position announced by the school at the time.
Bell’s best season at Ohio State came in 2014 when he tallied 92 tackles and six interceptions. Of course, Ohio State won the national championship during the 2014 season and Bell was a key part of it. Bell had 65 tackles and a pair of interceptions in 2015 before becoming a second-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2016 NFL Draft.
During his NFL career, Bell started 117 of the 139 games he played during his nine-year career. Bell spent his first four seasons with the Saints before playing for the Cincinnati Bengals for three seasons. Bell went on to play for the Carolina Panthers for a year before wrapping things up with the Bengals in 2024.
Bell had eight 760 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, and eight interceptions during his NFL career. Now, he’ll be trying to pass his knowledge of the game onto the next generation of players.
Coaching at Colorado is a nice landing spot for the 31-year-old Bell to start his coaching career. It’ll be interesting to see where his coaching career is able to take him.
