Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer calls out Dave Portnoy weeks after the Buckeyes defeated the Michigan Wolverines
Urban Meyer and Dave Portnoy have some things to figure out after the Buckeyes win over Michigan.
The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Michigan Wolverines at the end of November to end a four-game losing streak against the Wolverines. That 27-9 win over Michigan was one that Ryan Day and the program really needed.
Ohio State was the easy favorite the year before as well, but fell 13-10 to the Wolverines. This time, the Buckeyes got it done through the snow and advanced to the Big Ten Championship, where they fell to Indiana.
Urban Meyer says Dave Portnoy still owes him money
Portnoy has long had beef with Ohio State and its football program being that he’s a Michigan fan. It is likely at an all-time high since Portnoy has appeared on Big Noon Kickoff all season, and the Buckeyes play the majority of their games on Fox. With Meyer working at Fox as well, the two have had plenty of interaction. Before the Michigan and Ohio State game, the two made a bet for $1000 that would go to the winning school’s NIL fund.
“Portnoy still owes me 1,000 bucks, I know that,” Meyer said in the short clip from his Triple Option podcast.
There you have it. Meyer says he has not been paid his dues from the bet yet which he has with Portnoy. After all of the trash talk that Portnoy has dished out over the last couple of years, he should have no problem stepping up and paying off this bet. NFL great Rob Gronkowski even said he would make sure the loser pays up.
Michigan has its bowl game on New Year’s Eve against the Texas Longhorns and they’re in a much different spot than the Buckeyes, who will play the same day in the College Football Playoff. The loss to Ohio State was Michigan’s last game with Sherrone Moore as their head coach after they fired him for cause. There are much bigger fish to fry in Ann Arbor than the $1,000 bet by Portnoy, but a bet is a bet.
