Joe Burrow’s college career was a very unique one that had him at two major programs. When thinking of Burrow, most people tie him to his National Championship season, and rightfully so.
However, many forget that it was Ohio State where Burrow spent the majority of his college football career. Burrow was in Columbus for three seasons before he decided to transfer from Columbus to Baton Rouge.
The Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback recently opened up about how he feels rooting for the Buckeyes and whether or not he does.
“I always root for them, I still have people that I care about there. So, it’s a love-hate relationship as well,” Burrow said via Kellyanne Stitts. “So sometimes I root for them, sometimes I don’t. That kind of depends on my mood.”
It seemed as if Burrow said jokingly that it was a love-hate relationship. Burrow has two college fanbases to appease, so that could be what he is alluding to here. LSU fans don’t want to see him rooting for the Buckeyes and vice versa.
Burrow was never able to take the starting job at Ohio State and was beaten out by Dwayne Haskins Jr. in the 2017 season. The NFL star spent 2018 and 2019 at LSU, where he was a Heisman winner and National Champion in his last season before becoming the No. 1 overall pick.
While at Ohio State, Burrow played in 11 games after being redshirted his freshman season. Burrow completed 29-of-39 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns while in Columbus.
The magical season in 2019 by Burrow is one we haven’t really ever seen. He showed promise in 2018 but the jump he made in 2019 was unreal. While throwing to Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow had 5,671 passing yards, 60 touchdowns, and just six interceptions that season. Burrow did that in 15 games and it was nothing short of video game numbers.
Just recently, Burrow was back on the Ohio State campus training during the NFL offseason. If the Bengals were better in 2024, Burrow would have added an MVP award to his resume. The two-time Pro Bowler is one of the very best quarterbacks in the NFL and is only getting better.
