Jameson Williams spent two of his three college seasons in Columbus, but he is not remembered as a Buckeye. Williams ended up hitting the transfer portal and starred at Alabama for one season.
Ohio State has had a loaded wide receiver room just about every season as of late. It was no different when Williams was in Columbus with first-round NFL draft talents Garrett Wilson Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Chris Olave.
The opportunity never came for Williams in Columbus and he doesn’t seem to be a fan of the Buckeyes for that reason. Williams recently appeared on the “St. Brown Podcast” and was asked his thoughts on Ohio State. The initial answer was a short one.
“Man, I ain’t got nothing to say about them,” Williams said with everyone laughing.
Things worked out well for Williams. He caught 79 passes in his only season with the Crimson Tide for nearly 1,600 receiving yards. Williams made himself into a Heisman contender after two years in Columbus. He ended up a first-round pick to the Detroit Lions in the 2022 NFL Draft.
“I think that’s what it was, opportunity. They just wasn’t coming my way,” Williams said of his time in Columbus.
Williams played in 11 games as a freshman and caught six passes for 112 yards. As a sophomore, Williams played in eight games and had 154 receiving yards. Williams was a speedster who showed he was a deep threat in Columbus but did not get a whole lot of opportunity. It is hard to blame the Buckeyes when they had fellow first-round talents ahead of him.
“That’s where I needed to be I feel like,” Williams said of ending up with Alabama. “It was going to me and [John] Metchie.”
The comments make it sound like Williams is bitter at the team in Columbus. As a competitor, it is not hard to see where he is coming from. However, you understand Ohio State’s view too. It worked out for both sides and that is all that matters.
“I just really wanted an opportunity. I knew what I could do.“
