Top tight ends are rare and, therefore, see every top program fighting hard to add a dynamic threat who can stretch the field. The Ohio State Buckeyes haven’t built a deep history of acquiring and developing elite playmakers at tight end, but after putting several mid-round draft picks into the NFL and then landing Max Klare in the transfer portal, that could be changing.

The Buckeyes hope it’ll make an impact in the chase for four-star tight end Jack Brown. The top 2027 prospect out of Missouri ranks as the fourth-best player at his position and is a top-60 prospect overall. While he’s unsurprisingly considered a Notre Dame lean, he’s giving head coach Ryan Day and tight ends coach Keenan Bailey a chance.

Per Brown, a big part of their appeal will be seeing the Horseshoe coming off a national championship win.

“I don’t know much about Ohio State but Coach Keenan Bailey has been in contact with me a lot, so I thought, why not see a game at the reigning National Champs home stadium,” Brown explained.

He’ll be in Columbus when the Minnesota Golden Gophers come to town on October 4. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has seen no shortage of interest from Big Ten and SEC schools, plus Notre Dame.

The Buckeyes will try to produce their first-ever John Mackey Award for the best tight end in the nation with Klare. The last time they had a first-round tight end was when Andy Katzenmoyer went 28th overall to the New England Patriots in 1999.
