When No. 4 Ohio State travels to No. 3 Penn State on Saturday, the Buckeyes will be going up against a player that they are far too familiar with.

Wide receiver Julian Fleming spent his first four seasons at Ohio State before transferring back home to Pennsylvania to spend his final season with the Nittany Lions.

Saturday’s matchup will be the first and perhaps not the last chance that Fleming gets to go up against hold old team. On Monday, Penn State head coach James Franklin did not shy away from it being a big game for Fleming.

“Whenever you play an opponent that a member of our team came from that school, then for me to sit here and say that it’s not a big moment for that individual, it is,” Franklin told the local media.

Fleming has played in seven games this season for Penn State and has 10 catches resulting in 148 yards. The former Buckeye is the team’s sixth-leading receiver on the season and hasn’t been a focal point of the offense.

In his four seasons in Columbus, Fleming played in 38 games and recorded 963 yards and seven touchdowns. The current Nittany Lion was the No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2020 and the No. 4 overall player in the country.

“Julian is a super mature guy. He’s been really good in our locker room. I’m very, very proud of him. I’m very glad he’s here. But for us, I don’t want Julian to treat this game any differently than how he treated Wisconsin.”

Fleming’s best game this season was two catches for 60 yards against Kent State back on Sept. 21. We will see if going up against his old team gives him any extra motivation to make a big play or two.

In today’s age of college football, it is becoming more common for players to get a matchup against their old teams. This one stands out a bit since it is coming in a game between two top-five teams.
