Jeremiah Smith makes strong statement that shows exactly how he feels about former Ohio State OC Brian Hartline
Jeremiah Smith clearly has a close connection with Brian Hartline that’ll go far beyond Columbus.
The Ohio State Buckeyes losing Brian Hartline wasn’t unexpected because it was always going to happen at some point. Hartline landing at South Florida for his first head coaching gig was a bit of a surprise.
Ohio State looks to have done well replacing Hartline by hiring Cortez Hankton to be the wide receivers coach and Arthur Smith to be the offensive coordinator.
Hartline only took WR Bryson Rogers and EDGE C.J. Hicks out of the transfer portal from Ohio State. There was worry within the fanbase around his exit and if a ton of players would follow him, it never happened.

Ohio State’s star receiver was asked if Florida recruits should stay home to attend USF now and Smith didn’t hold back his thoughts.
“I feel like everybody should go to USF ’cause that man gonna develop you into a first-rounder,” Smith stated on the I Am Athlete podcast.
Smith was the No. 1 player in the class of 2024 and let’s be real, he was going to be a great player wherever he went and a future NFL draft pick. But Smith chose to go to Ohio State in large part because of the development he would receive with Hartline.
“He’s gonna challenge you,” Smith said. “Don’t matter what it is, the things with Coach Hartline, the little things that matter to him. Stance and start, how you get in and out of breaks. I mean, just challenging, try to tap into your mind as well.”
Ohio State’s wide receiver recruiting has been second to none in large part because of Hartline. Receivers go to Columbus to play under him, though the expectation is that Ohio State is going to be able to at least be close to keeping it going.
Smith is from Florida and wouldn’t have made it to Ohio State if Miami were in the same place now as it was a couple of years ago. It sounds like he would have thought about USF as well if Hartline were there at the time.
