Jeremiah Smith is high on what Ohio State freshman WR Chris Henry Jr. can be for the Buckeyes. He even had to admit a similarity between them.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have a very new-looking football team this spring as they prepare for the 2026 season. There are 51 new players in the program with the transfer portal class paired with a big incoming freshman class.

Ohio State lost over a couple of dozen players to the portal and brought back about half of those additions in new players from the portal.

There’s never a heavy amount of freshmen who can make an impact at Ohio State. Jeremiah Smith did it a couple of years ago and Bo Jackson was the guy last year, but it isn’t a given to always have one of those freshman stars.

Luckily for the Buckeyes, they may have another

Jeremiah Smith opens up about who Chris Henry Jr. is

Henry is going to have a chance to be a major contributor for the Buckeyes, potentially even a starter opposite of Smith for the Buckeyes offense.

“I thought I’d never meet somebody that’s more quieter than me,” Smith joked Saturday of Henry. “Like, Chris is quiet. He’s so laid back, so chill. Got that Cali vibe in him. But you know, Chris is another one. Just came in, kept his head down, and is working. He’s the next one up.”

The last sentence is all you need to know. Smith knows what it takes to be special in Columbus and he didn’t accidentally say Henry is next up, and he wouldn’t have put any extra pressure on him if he didn’t believe he was fully capable.

Henry is 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, and gives the Buckeyes a big vertical threat to an offense already deploying Smith. Brandon Inniss and transfers Kyle Parker, Devin McCuinn are going to battle for playing time along with Smith, but all should get playing time under the new wideouts coach Cortez Hankton.

The Cali vibe brought up by Smith matches what Julian Sayin brings to the Buckeyes. He’s a soft-spoken player who lets his game do more talking than he ever will.

It’s only spring, but early whispers suggest Henry is going to be the real deal in an Ohio State uniform. Best case scenario for Ohio State is Henry hitting the ground running as a freshman when September rolls around.
