Jeremiah Smith is ready to feast. No, that’s not a prediction for his Christmas or holiday festivities. Instead, the Ohio State superstar wide receiver is prepping himself, along with the entire Buckeyes offense, to play against the Miami Hurricanes’ defense quite soon.

The Canes came out victorious in a defensive grudge match against the Texas A&M Aggies to begin their College Football Playoff run.

Jeremiah Smith reacts to learning Ohio State’s first opponent for CFP

Just moments after Miami beat Texas A&M, the Miami native sent a bold but simple message on social media in reaction to the finish. The Buckeyes will face the Hurricanes, as Ohio State starts its play in the College Football Playoff.

Smith had another incredibly active regular season campaign this year, totaling 80 receptions for 1,086 yards and 12 total touchdowns. Now, he’s gonna have some additional motivation to show out in this battle with the Hurricanes.

I called on A to Z’s own Brandon Little to provide even more insight into Smith’s history with the Buckeyes and what to expect in this upcoming clash with Miami.

“The Ohio State Buckeye knew what they were getting with Smith in the class of 2024 as the No. 1 overall recruit. It was a huge relief for Ryan Day and the staff when he signed on the dotted line. From Day 1, the Buckeyes knew that Smith was going to be the focal point of their offense through the air. The South Florida native has been everything that the Buckeyes could have hoped for with 2,401 receiving yards and 28 total touchdowns through his first 28 games in college. At one point, Miami was a real thorn in the side of the Buckeyes in their pursuit of Smith.

“Miami is the hometown team for Smith, and he made the tough decision to go away from the Hurricanes, even when they were ready to pay higher on the NIL front. Smith chose development for the future over money now, though Ohio State still has him as one of the highest-paid players in the country. Now, Smith gets his hometown team and the school he decided to go away from. If the emoji means anything, he’s really looking forward to this one.” — Brandon Little, A to Z Sports

It will be intriguing to see how Smith performs versus a team he’s got special ties to before a snap is even played. If last year’s CFP dominance is any example, the numbers could be incredibly impressive for the future first-round pick in the NFL.
