The transfer portal being opened has unleashed plenty of craziness in the college football world. Thousands of players are in the portal and

Today’s era of college football has the transfer portal impacting everyone, including the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State has lost double-digit players to the transfer portal. The Buckeyes have lost some expected contributors for the 2026 season — though there hasn’t been a major departure. Jeremiah Smith just gave the Buckeyes a big sigh of relief, if there was ever any worry there.

Though he didn’t specifically say it was about him and his future at Ohio State, Smith just reassured folks he will be sticking around in Columbus for his junior season.

Smith letting Ohio State fans know he isn’t going anywhere is good news on a night the Buckeyes lost Carnell Tate to the NFL draft and Quincy Porter to the transfer portal. The Buckeyes’ biggest recruiting win of recent memory was landing Smith as the No. 1 player in 2025 out of Florida.

Ohio State fought off Miami to land Smith two signing days ago. The Buckeyes got over 1,300 receiving yards from Smith as a freshman in 2024 — and he was the focal point of their national championship-winning offense. There were rumors that schools were coming for Smith last offseason, but he stayed firm to Ohio State just like he plans to this time around.

The Buckeyes came up short in Smith’s sophomore season where he totaled 1,243 receiving yards to go along with 12 touchdown catches. Ohio State fell to Miami in the Cotton Bowl and they’ll get one more shot to win it all with Smith in Columbus.
