Lack of free agency interest for former Ohio State Buckeye star unfortunately validates every naysayers biggest criticism

It’s been a very strange career for former Ohio State running back JK Dobbins. He was a dominant member of the Buckeyes program for three seasons, never missing a game, and proceeded to rush for 4,459 yards and 38 touchdowns. Dobbins also hauled in 71 receptions for 645 yards and five more scores while in Columbus.

He was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. The early signs were tremendous for Dobbins, who looked like the future of the running back position in Baltimore. Unfortunately for Dobbins, he has dealt with a long list of injuries during his five-year NFL career so far. He has missed a total of 29 games.

When healthy, Dobbins was tremendous for Baltimore but the lack of availability led to his time ending with the Ravens following his rookie contract. He landed on a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024, and once again showcased his talent. Dobbins put together his finest season, rushing for 905 yards and nine scores in 13 games this past fall.

After some initial conversations around returning to the Chargers, Dobbins is once again a free agent. Considering that the former Buckeye star was coming off of his finest season, you would think that there would be some strong interest. So far, the demand has been almost nonexistent. There isn’t much buzz out there around Dobbins.

As the board continues to get smaller and smaller, it’s very possible that the demand does start to kick up for Dobbins. He is still just 26 years old, and has some tread still on the tires, at least in theory. The main issue has to be around the past injuries. With so much wear and tear on Dobbins, there is a strong argument that not all 26-year olds are created the same, especially when they play running back.
