It is the big week that we have been waiting for around college football. This weekend, the College Football Playoff will have the first games of the expanded format that now has 12 teams in it.
That means that No. 8 Ohio State will be hosting No. 9 Tennessee on Saturday for a spot to play Oregon next weekend. Ohio State is trying to leave the losing ways in the regular season that ended with a very disappointing loss to Michigan.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel already has some advice for the Buckeyes. It may be simple, but it is still worth noting nonetheless. Also, there is no way to tell if he is actually being serious.
“We have nothing new defensively, offensively, or special teams. We will be exactly what we’ve done,” Heupel told local media on Monday.
This means that Heupel and the Vols aren’t adding any new wrinkles or anything, at least off of his word. They will be the same team that they have been all season and hope that it will be enough to go into Columbus and grab a win over the Buckeyes.
Tennessee is a team that is good in the trenches on both sides of the ball and they also run the ball very well with lead running back Dylan Sampson toting the loss there. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava is very talented and can sling the rock around. Though he has been inconsistent this season, he is still a very capable quarterback that can hurt you.
Still, the Buckeyes are going to have to play their game to win this one. At home, they can not allow the Vols to control how the game is played. The Buckeyes need to get the ball out to their perimeter players and stretch the Vols’ defense. To make that happen, the running back duo of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins is going to need to play well for the Buckeyes.
If Ohio State can get the win, they will get the rematch with Oregon that they thought they would get in the Big Ten Championship.
Ohio State may soon receive an early Christmas gift that they desperately need for the football team in 2025
Would be a welcomed add for the Buckeyes.
