It isn’t often that you see a quarterback put up a pretty solid season like Kyle McCord did in 2023 with the Ohio State Buckeyes, to then transfer to a lesser program like Syracuse.
That is exactly what happened with McCord, as he and the Buckeyes opted to go in a different direction after Ohio State fell short of the College Football Playoff last season.
Will Howard transferred to Ohio State and that move has worked out well for the Buckeyes. McCord going to Syracuse was the best choice for his career and now he is heading to the NFL draft.
McCord announced on X that he would be officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord’s four years of college eligibility were used, but some wondered if he would look for a waiver to play an extra season. McCord played in five games as a freshman at Ohio State and then seven as a sophomore.
In his one season as a start in Columbus, McCord threw for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. This season with the Orange, the Pennsylvania native has thrown for 4,779 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
It is thought to be a rather weak quarterback class in general for 2025. McCord could see his name called on Day 3 of the draft at some point.
McCord was once a high four-star quarterback recruit to the Buckeyes. Now, he will leave Syracuse and embark on an NFL career. People in Columbus should do nothing but wish him future success, as there was never any bad blood between the two sides.
Howard and the Buckeyes are two wins away from a National Championship and he has played well all year. Neither side would change a thing about how everything played out.
