The Michigan Wolverines are in the midst of a terrible season after winning its first national championship since 1997. Despite their on-field success under Jim Harbaugh from 2021-2023, the Wolverines were left to deal with his rapid departure, uncertainty from a sign-stealing scandal, and the Ohio State Buckeyes continuing to play at a high level. The team's recruiting woes cast a big shadow of doubt as to what the program would become.

However, Thursday brought a swift lightning strike of hope to Ann Arbor. The Wolverines flipped 2025 No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood from LSU, made headway with 2025 elite defensive tackle Jahkeem Stewart, and nabbed another premier 4-star receiver.

And just like that, Michigan again has Ohio State's full attention.

Michigan Wolverines, Sherrone Moore stun college football world with biggest recruiting win in program history

The Michigan Wolverines have pulled off a coup, securing the commitment of five-star quarterback and number-one recruit in the class of 2025 Bryce Underwood. Michigan flipped Underwood's commitment away from the LSU Tigers.  Underwood, a Michigan native playing for Belleville, became the highest-ranked recruit the Wolverines have ever landed. Underwood's commitment launched Michigan into the […]

While the Buckeyes rank at the top of 2025 recruiting rankings, headlined by 5-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair, the addition of Underwood gives Michigan a star to revamp its roster around. The NIL efforts of Michigan have clearly been refined this season, and sources around the Big Ten saw the Wolverines as a looming power that just needed to organize its resources more effectively.

That time has come, and Michigan appears to be moving quickly on the nation's top talent.

With Oregon continuing to find success on the recruiting trail, Michigan holding its own with in-state and then stealing national talent away from others is something that can quickly spark a revamp instead of a rebuild.

The Buckeyes, likely to be led by 2024 5-star quarterback Julian Sayin next year, have little to fear. But the ante has been raised, and if Sherrone Moore is at all a decent coach and recruiter, which we believe he should be based on his time with Harbaugh and these recent strides with prospects, then Michigan will be highly competitive in the near future.

Things change quickly in the college world, and NIL and the transfer portal are redefining what that used to mean. The Buckeyes hope to land Stewart and keep their own 2025 class safe from poachers, but it won't be easy.
