The talk of the town on Monday for the Cleveland Browns is the quarterback position—and rightfully so, with Joe Flacco now named the starter.

Flacco will lead the Browns at home against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, a key AFC North matchup right out of the gate.

Another storyline worth monitoring for the Browns’ offense centers around rookie RB Quinshon Judkins. Judkins’ legal case in Florida was recently no-billed for the domestic violence charge, but despite that, the Browns and Judkins have yet to finalize a contract.

Quinshon Judkins may go unsigned for quite some time with the Cleveland Browns

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns and Judkins may not reach an agreement until the NFL completes its investigation into a potential violation of the personal conduct policy. Judkins is seeking a fully guaranteed deal, with players selected around him at No. 36 overall securing just that. However, Cleveland appears hesitant—possibly over full guarantees, or disagreement regarding void language should another issue arise.

The Browns likely expect Judkins to become their starting running back at some point this season, though there’s no telling when he’ll make his debut. Having missed all of training camp, Judkins will also need time to get acclimated. In the meantime, Cleveland will rely on Jerome Ford and rookie Dylan Sampson to handle the workload.

It remains unclear whether Judkins will face a suspension—and if so, for how long. Until that plays out, his contract situation remains unresolved, with the guaranteed money issue looming large. Heading into the final preseason game, this storyline is one to watch as the season opener against the Bengals on Sept. 7 approaches.
