It was just a matter of time until Ryan Day and Lou Holtz drama was stirred up again with Ohio State set to play Notre Dame in the National Championship on Monday.
Holtz questioned the physicality of the Buckeyes ahead of last year’s matchup when Ohio State won 17-14. Following that game, Day called out Holtz with the quote we all remember well, "I'd like to know where Lou Holtz is right now".
After Pat McAfee posted a video on X wondering if Holtz would be at the game on Monday, Holtz threw some shade at Day while saying he would indeed be at the game in Atlanta, Georgia.
“If Notre Dame doesn’t win, it’s because we want to preserve Ryan Day’s job. I was originally going to be at the game in spirit, but now I’ll be dragging my body along as well,” Holtz said on X.
As we all know, Day has had some pressure on him after a fourth straight Michigan loss. Ohio State’s ability to rebound like they have in the College Football Playoff has lightened that pressure, though the Buckeyes still need to win one more game to accomplish their big goal.
Wins over Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas have been very impressive by Ohio State over the last few weeks. Notre Dame stands in front of the Buckeyes for Day’s first National Championship and Ohio State’s first in a decade.
Holtz posted a video on X giving his prediction on what will happen when Ohio State and Notre Dame play in just a few days. The former Fighting Irish head coach took the team you figured he would.
"I believe the University of Notre Dame will prevail in this football game. Not because we have the best football team, but I think we have the best culture. Culture will beat talent each and every time."
Don’t expect Day to give Holtz much attention following the game win or lose, as it seems he is past it. Ohio State shouldn’t need any extra bulletin board material to get the job done, but Holtz has provided some if they want to use it.
