The Ohio State Buckeyes are now on a bye week before they begin Big Ten play on the road against the Washington Huskies. Ohio State has taken care of business so far, defeating Texas, Grambling State, and Ohio. With a week off, the Buckeyes can address some issues that have shown up over the first three games while also putting time into recruiting. According to 247Sports, Ohio State holds the No. 9-ranked recruiting class with 21 commitments.

Pass rusher is one area where the Buckeyes missed on a couple of their top targets, such as Luke Wafle and Carter Meadows. However, they did go out to California and land one of the more underrated edge rushers in the class. Now, other programs are trying to swoop in and flip him from Ohio State.

Ohio State dealing with a recruiting problem off of the field

“Teams are still trying to flip Wilder but the new five-star said he pushes most coaches off to his high school coach or his father to handle since he’s locked in with Ohio State. No other visits are planned and as long as position coach Larry Johnson stays around in Columbus, Wilder looks like a lock to the Buckeyes.” – Adam Gorney, Rivals

It sounds as if the Buckeyes have nothing to worry about with Wilder, who is ranked as the No. 5 defensive lineman in the class of 2026, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound defender is being recruited to play off the edge and is the only true pass rusher currently committed. Damari Simeon, Cameron Brickle, and Jamir Perez are the three defensive tackles set to join him in this cycle under defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

When Wilder arrives at Ohio State, he will likely have a chance to compete for playing time immediately. Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson are both chasing NFL careers after this season, as is linebacker C.J. Hicks. Beau Atkinson could return for another year, and after him the only depth is current freshman Zion Grady. Wilder may have flown under the radar at times in his recruitment, but schools have clearly taken notice—that’s why so many are trying to pry him away from the Buckeyes.
