Oddsmakers aren’t hiding what they think is going to happen between Ohio State and Miami in the College Football Playoff
Ohio State now knows it’s Miami that it will be playing in the CFP.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are 10 days away from beginning their College Football Playoff run, and yesterday they learned who their opponent will be.
Ohio State will begin its quest to go back-to-back with a matchup against the Miami Hurricanes in the quarterfinals. Miami edged out Texas A&M by a 10-3 score in the first round on Saturday.
Ohio State opens up as a two-score favorite over Miami
When the Buckeyes take on Miami in Texas on New Year’s Eve, they will be 9.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel. The Buckeyes and Hurricanes have played twice in the regular season; Ohio State defeated Miami on Jan. 3, 2003, in the national championship game.
Ohio State’s last time out was a 13-10 loss against Indiana in the Big Ten Championship. Indiana’s defensive front gave Ohio State major issues, and Miami has the capabilities to do the same. Texas A&M QB Marcell Reed was sacked seven times, and Miami DL Rueben Bain was responsible for three by himself.
The Buckeyes should match up well with Miami’s Carson Beck-led offense. Miami’s two playmakers to watch are freshman WR Malachi Toney and former Ohio State RB commit Mark Fletcher. Both players were key to the win over the Aggies and will be to any success the Hurricanes can have against Ohio State.
Ohio State is no stranger to playing big games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and this one will be the biggest of its season to this point. The Buckeyes have to shake off the loss to Indiana in their first game against Miami in the CFP if they want to go on the run that they expect to.
