The loss to Michigan last season marked the fourth straight time that Ohio State head coach Ryan Day came up short against the Wolverines.
However, that defeat may have been exactly what the Buckeyes needed to fuel their championship run. Following the loss in November, Ohio State stormed through the College Football Playoff and captured the national title.
Not everyone is giving the Buckeyes full credit, though. One Michigan standout believes Ohio State’s championship “doesn’t count”—and his reason is sure to raise eyebrows.
Michigan senior DE Derrick Moore has a message for the Ohio State Buckeyes
Moore, entering his final season with the Wolverines, has never lost to Ohio State. On Thursday at Big Ten Football Media Days, the defensive end took a shot at the Buckeyes’ title run.
“I’ll congratulate them on the win. But you know it’s not a real win if y’all ain’t beat us,” Moore said. “I’m gonna congratulate them on their win, but this year, it’s gonna be different.”
Moore’s comments—congratulating Ohio State while questioning the legitimacy of their title—are surely bulletin-board material for this year’s matchup on Nov. 29. Not that extra motivation is ever needed for The Rivalry, but Moore just provided some.
“If the playoff extension wasn’t around, they wouldn’t have won the national championship,” Moore said, via Eleven Warriors. “We pretty much look at it like, ’Hey man, y’all had an easy little run. We helped y’all along the way. So we pretty much helped y’all build back up.’ But like I said, after that game, they dominated everybody that came in front of them. So I’ve got to give all the credit to them.”

The Buckeyes open the 2025 season with a major test against Texas, and it’ll be a one-week-at-a-time mentality from there. But that Michigan game this year? It’s as big as ever.
