Once you are a part of the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry, it is hard to let it go. That is the case for a pair of well-known former NFL teammates who went to the opposing schools.
Mike Vrabel appeared on the ‘ManningCast’ Monday night when the Los Angeles Chargers hosted the Baltimore Ravens and dropped quite a funny story about him and Tom Brady.
With Vrabel having been a Buckeye and Brady playing college at Michigan, the two didn’t let the rivalry stop after they left college. Vrabel shared a funny story on Monday night that shows the game really never leaves you.
“My family, my kids had such great Christmases thanks to the wagers with Ohio State and Michigan back in the day when we were both playing for the Patriots,” Vrabel told Peyton and Eli Manning.
It is not uncommon for teammates to make wagers on their college teams playing. We often hear about that or we see players having to daunt opposing gear from the other team for everyone to see.
Vrabel and Brady were teammates with the New England Patriots from 2001 until 2008. During that time, Michigan defeated the Buckeyes just one single time. Michigan beat Ohio State 35-21 in 2003, but the Buckeyes won the other seven matchups. At most, Varbale lost their wager just one time while they were teammates.
From 1993 to 1996, Vrabel played for Ohio State after his high school career at Walsh Jesuit in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Vrabel was a third-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers and played his four-year rookie contract out there. Following his eight seasons with the Patriots, Vrabel played two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Since 2000, the Buckeyes have dominated the series for the most part. However, things have gone Michigan’s way for the past three meetings. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes will try to change tune on things this Saturday and they are heavily favored to do just that.
Any bragging rights as of late have gone Brady’s way with the Wolverines taking the last three. Though they aren’t placing wagers anymore, Vrabel would have to feel pretty good about Christmas this year if they did.
