The good news continues to roll in for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the wake of their 34-23 National Championship win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Ryan Day and company are enjoying life after clinching their first title in a decade, relieving the pressure that has been building around the program in recent years.
The Buckeyes received a ton of support from recruits, celebrities, and the most passionate fan base in the country. The most notable reaction was from a future star for the program.
2027 5-star quarterback Brady Edmunds has been committed to the Buckeyes for over a month, and he's already said, "My family has been Ohio State fans forever." But he reiterated his commitment after the Buckeyes' title run.
"i committed when I did for a reason, I believed!!! NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!! #GoBucks", Edmunds tweeted on Monday evening.
"They have a quarterback friendly offense with the weapons they bring, so it's definitely a good place to be," Edmunds told 247Sports. "I've always wanted to play at Ohio State since I was a little kid. I felt like I've always been a Buckeye and now it's just official."
Edmunds is ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2027 class, No. 2 among quarterbacks, and No. 3 in California, according to the 247Sports rankings.
During his sophomore season, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Edmunds played in 12 games, throwing for 3,222 yards and 36 touchdowns while also contributing over 300 rushing yards with nine additional touchdowns.
With five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair being the standout of Ohio State's current recruiting class and many elite quarterbacks hunting for immediate playing time to take advantage of NIL deals, it will be a challenge for coaches like Ryan Day and Chip Kelly to secure another five-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
Acquiring Edmunds for 2027 not only provides a break between quarterbacks but also reduces the urgency to immediately succeed with a new commitment following St. Clair.
From a stylistic perspective, Edmunds possesses several intriguing skills, along with the ideal size, making him one of the more standout quarterback prospects in the coming years. He is likely to have the opportunity to compete for a position early in his college career.
