The Ohio State Buckeyes are set to maneuver the transfer portal and everything that comes with it on Jan. 2 when it opens for 10 days.

Ohio State has had one player make his intentions known that he would be entering the portal and that is WR Bryson Rodgers. More will certainly follow, but the decision doesn’t have to be made quite yet. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes will have to prepare for a College Football Playoff game while dealing with portal losses and acquisitions if they are able to beat Miami on Wednesday night

Another former Buckeye is heading to the transfer portal

Just ahead of the Cotton Bowl kicking off, news broke that former Ohio State QB Devin Brown would be entering the transfer portal for a second time in his career. Brown was the backup for the Buckeyes last season behind Will Howard and decided to transfer to California in the portal. Despite entering the portal during the CFP run last year, Brown remained with the Buckeyes as the backup quarterback through the national championship game.

Brown had transferred to California hoping to eh the starting quarterback but that didn’t happen. True freshman QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele won the job for the Bears and was the starter for this season. The left-handed quarterback had some impressive moments in his first college season and already has committed to return to California for another season. After four years of college football, Brown will have one last season of eligibility.

This season with Cal, Brown played in nine games and completed 4-of-7 passes for 48 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. As the backup to Howard last season in Columbus, Brown played in nine games with 11-of-20 passes completed for 114 yards and a touchdown. Brown was a top-50 recruit in the class of 2022 out of Utah and only left the Buckeyes for a chance to get on the field. Julian Sayin was always the future this season for Ohio State.

Expect Brown to transfer to a potentially smaller school where he can be guaranteed a starting spot. The former Ohio State quarterback is set to get one last shot to be a starting quarterback in 2026 at the college football level.
