The Ohio State Buckeyes know they're entering a unique spring where a quarterback battle will take place between three young options. The running back race hasn't been as much of a hot topic because veteran CJ Donaldson was brought in from West Virgina.
However, running backs coach Carlos Locklyn didn't want to rule out true freshman Bo Jackson from making an impact. He, Anthony Rogers, and Isaiah West are first-year playmakers entering the room alongside James Peoples and Sam Williams-Dixon.
Here's what Locklyn told reporters on Friday's press conference.
"He got gifts only God can give him. You see the potential for what he could be. He's gonna have to work and complete, but I'm excited about him. We'll see."
With Donaldson the only sure-thing in the room to have some sort of role, there's room for everyone in the backfield to earn their keep. The Buckeyes would probably prefer Peoples to be the lead back and have Donaldson be more of a short-yardage and goal line option. Peoples looked similar to JK Dobbins in limited time, but that was only 49 carries.
Williams-Dixon had previously entered the transfer portal but returned to Ohio State. It's possible he finds a role after all, but he's also a spring transfer candidate if he can't distinguish himself.
Jackson was the most impressive high school player of the three newcomers. He has the body and play style of a lead back, and his highlight film shows an impressive athlete who would fit the bill, too.
