Through two weeks of the college football season, it is clear who the offense is running through for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

From the moment that freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith stepped onto the football field in college, he has pretty much made things look easy. Ohio State has only played Akron and Western Michigan to this point, still, it just shouldn’t look this easy to a freshman.

Smith’s cousin and Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith made a bold prediction on what Smith is going to eventually become.

“I’ve seen a lot of great receivers and I’ve also had the chance to watch JJ since he was about 10 years old,” Smith recently said, via CBS Sports. “He’s going to be the best receiver ever. I really believe that.”

Smith opened the season with 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Akron then had 119 yards and a 70-yard touchdown against Western Michigan just a week later. He is clearly the top target for graduate quarterback Will Howard.

“Man, I was in the house and I was watching the whole game. When he caught that first touchdown, man, I jumped right out of my seat,” said Smith. “The whole house was going crazy, it was good to see that. I thought he had a heck of a game.”

Smith was the No. 1 player coming out of the 2024 recruiting class and has made a huge impact from the jump. The Buckeyes will ride his production for the next three seasons, as long as everything goes according to plan before he embarks on an NFL career. That is where Smith believes that he can become the best ever.

The starting NFL quarterback is someone that Smith has admitted he looks up to and the two talk often.

"It's just in me, I just want to work. I have a cousin named Geno Smith, I would look up to him as well,” Smith said in August, via Adam King of 10TV News.

Many talented freshmen receivers have made their way to Columbus but it is not often they have a huge impact. Smith is set to shatter every freshman receiver record in Columbus undoubtedly.
