The Ohio State Buckeyes made the big decision on the next offensive coordinator to take over for Brian Hartline on Saturday.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers OC Arthur Smith is set to be the Buckeyes’ next play-caller, as Ryan Day went back to the NFL to fill a vital role once again. Bringing in Smith was not the only hire that the Buckeyes made on Saturday.

Former Ohio State linebacker is back on staff in Columbus

Former Ohio State LB Anthony Schlegel is rejoining the Ohio State support staff for a second time. Schlegel is now listed as the assistant strength and conditioning coach, the same role he held with the Buckeyes from 2011-2015.

Schlegel had 82 tackles and a pair of sacks for the Buckeyes during the 2005 season. The Texas native was a third-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2006 NFL Draft. Schlegel played in the NFL for two seasons, spending 2017 with the Cincinnati Bengals.

In 2021, Schlegel served as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head strength and conditioning coach under Urban Meyer. Schlegel was around the Ohio State program in 2024 as an interim strength and conditioning coach.

Ohio State had the opening for Schlegel to fill, with AT Turner leaving to be the strength and conditioning coach under Brian Hartline at South Florida.

Schlegel is respected around Ohio State and has already been recognized on the field. Bringing Schlegel back into the mix on a full-time basis is an easy decision for the Buckeyes.
