The Ohio State Buckeyes are certainly focused on their upcoming matchup with the Texas Longhorns. With a win, they'll earn a spot to play for a national title.

That being said, the transfer portal is an evergreen piece to the puzzle in college football nowadays. Ohio State has been active, and their latest addition is an important one for their defense in 2025.

Ohio State lands transfer linebacker

Former Duquesne linebacker Ty Howard has committed to the Buckeyes. He announced that he has signed with Ohio State already, too.

Howard is a Cleveland native, so the move will be a comfortable one for the proven LB. He earned All-NEC honors this season after totaling 52 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 3 INTs.

Plus, Howard still has two seasons of eligibility. He could play some sort of role for the next two years on the Buckeye defense.

It will certainly be a step up in competition for the linebacker, but he's proven to be dominant at a lower level, conference-wise. There's little reason to doubt that he can transition to the Big Ten smoothly, since the Buckeyes had a lot of interest in getting him out of the portal.

Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles adds a legitimate contributor in Howard, who can compete for a starting role in 2025. If he doesn't, you can do a lot worse for depth than him at the position next year.
