Ohio State added two five-star quarterbacks in the class of 2024 Julian Sayin and Air Noland are now with the Buckeyes.

In front of them on the depth chart are Will Howard and Devin Brown, and perhaps even Lincoln Kienholz. It is unlikely either freshman will touch the field this season.

When highly talented prospects aren’t playing, rumors often swirl that they will eventually jump ship. If you have paid attention to X (Twitter) or Ohio State message boards as of late, you may have seen talk recently that Noland was away from the program.

Air’s father, Prentiss Noland Jr., recently appeared on the Jucks on Bucks podcast to shut down those rumors.

"Of course we hear the rumors, my phone is ringing, I've already got like 45 calls here in Atlanta about that situation," his father said. "Just to put the rumors to bed, Air's in Columbus. There are no problems. There's no situation. Did he get a little homesick? Yes. He was homesick when he first got to Ohio. He's like any other normal teenager that leaves."

The Buckeyes went into Georgia and recruited Noland out of Langston Hughes High School. That is SEC territory and the Buckeyes got a big win by receiving his commitment.

Freshman quarterbacks actually getting to play at Ohio State does not happen often. The Buckeyes pretty much threw that idea out by adding a graduate transfer in Howard. Noland knew the situation coming in, so that was likely never an issue.

After this season, Howard won’t be with the Buckeyes and Ohio State will likely have an open competition at the quarterback position. Noland is a talent that will be right in the mix to win the job then. Sayin and 2025 five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair will be other guys in the race. Brown and Kienholz will have decisions to make as well.

With how college football operates today around NIL and with the transfer portal more active than ever, these kinds of rumors are going to pop up. It isn’t the first time we have seen it and it won’t be the last time.
