Ohio State basketball is set to meet with a talented guard that would fit in Columbus from the transfer portal
Jake Diebler and the Buckeyes are busy to begin the week with the transfer portal now open. Guard is a clear spot the Buckeyes have to add at, and they’re already being connected to a possible fit.
The transfer portal is open and it’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks for the Ohio State basketball program.
Four players from this past season’s team have already opted to hit the transfer portal. Devin Royal, Colin White, Gabe Cupps, and Taison Chatman are all moving on from the program. Royal is in the portal with a do-not-contact tag and appears to be heading to another major college hoops program.
Getting a couple of guards is key for the Buckeyes, and they’re now set to meet with an intriguing option.
Florida Atlantic standout guard to meet with Ohio State
According to Kentucky Sports Radio’s Jacob Polacheck, the Buckeyes are one of the teams in the mix for FAU guard Devin Vanterpool, with whom the team is going to have a Zoom meeting. Vanterpool will meet with Providence, Georgetown, and Mississippi State, and the Buckeyes.
Vanterpool had a breakout season at Florida Atlantic as a sophomore with 24 starts made while averaging 15.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. The 6-foot-4 guard played in 30 games as a freshman in 2024-2025, but at just 7.9 minutes per game. Vanterpool made a big jump to 31.2 minutes per game this season.
When it comes to shooting, Vanterpool made 2.2 three-pointers a game at a 35 percent clip. He’s a 78 percent free-throw shooter when he gets to the line, where he averaged 3.6 free throws attempted per game this past season.
Ohio State needs a starting guard alongside John Mobley Jr. as long as he returns from the NBA Draft process, and at least two guards for the rotation.
Vanterpool is from Maryland and is the son of David Vanterpool, an assistant coach in the NBA with the Washington Wizards.
A notable name to know for the Buckeyes with the transfer portal now open and well over 1,000 names already entered.
