The dust has settled from Ohio State’s first loss of the season over the weekend. After going undefeated during the regular season, the Buckeyes now sit at 12-1, following their loss to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship.

Last week was a long one in Columbus, with plenty going on outside of preparing for Indiana. Offensive coordinator Brian Hartline accepted his first head coaching job at USF, and the Buckeyes had to battle for several major recruits around signing day. The college football calendar does no favors when it comes to coaching changes, as they often hit at the end of the season when teams are competing for the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State to lose a defensive assistant to the Arkansas Razorbacks

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Buckeyes are losing assistant offensive line coach Marcus Johnson to Arkansas. Johnson will join the Razorbacks’ offensive line staff under new head coach Ryan Silverfield. Johnson previously played under Silverfield with the Minnesota Vikings during his NFL career.

Johnson has spent just one season with the Buckeyes after two years at Purdue, where he served as the offensive line coach. Prior to his time with the Boilermakers, he spent three seasons at Missouri as the run game coordinator. He was one of the additions brought in alongside offensive line coach Tyler Bowen when Bowen arrived from Virginia Tech.

Charlie Dickey remains with the Buckeyes as an offensive line assistant under Bowen, and Ohio State will likely fill Johnson’s role after the season. At this time, it is unclear whether the departing assistant will remain with the team through its College Football Playoff run. Regardless, it appears Johnson received a promotion by heading to Arkansas, which is a positive step in his coaching career. For the Buckeyes, his departure is one they can replace without much issue.
