The Ohio State Buckeyes recruiting machine has generated nothing but Top 5 classes for nearly a decade as Ryan Day and company continue to not only bring in the best players in the country, but then retain them, develop them, and now win national championships with them.
It's that very dominance and repeated habit of winning on the recruiting trail that seems to have Ohio State building momentum once again for a top tier five star talent. Can they actually land this elite young man who could change the future of their defense? Let's take a look.
Kaden Henderson, Five Star LB Recruit
Kaden Henderson might just be a sophomore in high school, but he's already brought in nearly 40 FBS scholarship offers and a five star ranking from most of the recruiting services already.
As a freshman in high school he immediately became the best player on the field, tallying nearly 100 tackles. Then as a sophomore he began to fill out his frame, racked up even more tackle production, forced fumbles, making plenty of big splashy plays. Shortly after, all the blue blood programs began to pursue his talents aggressively.
Ohio State was a bit of a late adapter in getting their offer sent Kaden Henderson's way, but ever since they did the momentum has been building towards perhaps stealing him away from deep in SEC country (he's from Tampa, FL). Now he's set to visit Ohio State again this weekend (as you can see in his post below).
Ohio State now becomes the only out-of-state program to log multiple unofficial visits with Henderson in the last six months. That's certainly a good sign. The Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, and Miami Hurricanes have all three been pushing to land him as well, but Ohio State is in good shape early on to be right there in the mix for Henderson.
Henderson is still two years away from potentially joining the Ohio State program unless he reclassifies, graduating early so he can play his college and perhaps professional football a little sooner. However, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be a top priority right now.
At 6'2, 200+ pounds Henderson still has to fill out his frame a bit, but he's already shown that he is both elite playing off the ball at linebacker and pass rushing from the edge. There aren't verified track times or athletic testing for Henderson just yet, but when that day comes his five star status will likely be solidified.
Hopefully Ryan Day, James Laurinaitis, and the Ohio State Buckeyes staff can make a great impression this unofficial visit so they can continue gaining momentum on Kaden Henderson's recruitment. If he does land with the team he could very well be their next freak athlete linebacker like Sonny Styles.
