Ohio State’s spot in the initial Coaches Poll should give the Buckeyes more motivation for Week 1 matchup against the Texas Longhorns
The Coaches Poll is here and the Ohio State Buckeyes are high on the list.
The initial US LBM Coaches Poll has been released, setting the stage for a blockbuster Week 1 matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Texas Longhorns.
When Arch Manning and the Longhorns travel to Columbus, they’ll do so as the No. 1 team in the Coaches Poll. Despite coming off a national championship season that included a win over Texas, Ohio State opens at No. 2, just behind the Longhorns.
Buckeyes open at No. 2 in the Coaches Poll
Ohio State is the highest-ranked Big Ten team in the preseason rankings, setting up a massive showdown between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams on August 30 in Columbus.
Other notable Big Ten teams in the poll include:
- Penn State at No. 3
- Oregon at No. 7
- Illinois at No. 12
- Michigan at No. 14
- Indiana at No. 19
Ohio State will face Penn State, Illinois, and Michigan during the regular season. The Buckeyes don’t have Oregon or Indiana on the schedule and won’t play them unless it happens in the postseason.
The Buckeyes are in the midst of a quarterback competition that could be won by sophomore Julian Sayin. While they had 14 players drafted in April, Ohio State returns arguably the top two players in college football: wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and safety Caleb Downs.
The Horseshoe will be rocking at Noon on August 30, as the top two teams in the country kick off what could be a historic 2025 college football season.
