Ohio State may end up looking like the smartest team in college football with their latest recruiting commitment

Each recruiting cycle most college football teams have a solid idea of who they’re going to be going after and who is worth keying in on.
Every once in a while, a great story comes about where a recruit comes out of left field and ends up landing with a school that didn’t exactly have them on their board.
That was the case for Ohio State with their latest commitment from ATH/wide receiver Bodpegn Miller out of Ontario High School in Ohio. The three-star recruit committed to Ohio State on Friday, just three days after earning his offer from Brian Hartline.
“This offer is a dream come true, that’s why I committed,” Miller told A to Z Sports in an exclusive interview. “Blessed and honored to be a Buckeye. I will be making my OV in the fall.”
Last week, Miller impressed at a camp the Buckeyes held and was advised to return this week to camp once again. Miller showed out against some of the top cornerback recruits in the country and that was all that Hartline needed to see to extend an offer. At 6-foot-4, Miller was timed at 4.44 on the 40-yard dash at Ohio State and can clear over 10 feet on the broad jump.
“My goal was to do the same thing I did on the previous camp day, [which was] compete. [I wanted] to show them that they didn’t make a mistake of inviting me back and show them that I belong there.”
Miller had offers from Power Five programs like Northwestern, Boston, and Iowa State. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Miller is that he came to the United States from Ethiopia when he was six years old and didn’t know English. Fast forward through his grade school years and he has five Ivy League offers to continue his education and play football. Harvard, Howard, Yale, and Penn were some of the schools to offer the standout athlete.
Miller heard from Pittsburgh and a couple of other Power Five schools following his Ohio State offer, but knew where he wanted to be.
Some programs see Miller as a wide receiver just like Ohio State does, while others view him as a safety or quarterback. The interesting thing about Miller is that he has never actually played much wide receiver and has played quarterback throughout high school.
The raw athletic ability is what caught Hartline and Ohio State’s eye and the reason that he landed in Columbus. Ohio State doesn’t normally recruit a bunch of three-star players, especially at the wide receiver position. But what Miller proved to Hartline over a couple of camps was all that the Buckeyes needed to see.
“It feels amazing. All my hard work has paid off and seeing how far I’ve come is a blessing.”
Miller will join wideouts De’Zie Jones and Quincy Porter as the three currently committed. The Buckeyes could end up taking five total wide receivers.
The Buckeyes will continue what is a huge recruiting weekend, but receiving a commitment from Miller was a great start and story for the team in Columbus.
