Cody Simon, a senior linebacker with the Ohio State Buckeyes, has been recognized as a contender for a notable accolade.

Included in the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of The Year Award's watch list, released on Thursday, are Simon and 51 other college football athletes.

This award stands out as the first in college football to predominantly honor a player's leadership qualities both on and off the field.

Simon, together with the other nominees, was chosen by their respective schools for demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities, manifesting exceptional courage, integrity, and sportsmanship both on and off the field. Given that Simon was selected to wear Ohio State's ceremonial No. 0 jersey, known as the Block O, and was named a captain in August, it's clear why he was OSU's pick for this recognition.

An announcement of twenty semifinalists for the award will be made on October 22, with the selection of three finalists on December 16. The winner will be unveiled on February 12. Last season, the award was received by Mike Hollins, a running back from Virginia.

Throughout the current season's first two games, Simon has achieved seven tackles, including one tackle for loss, deflected a pass, and secured one sack.
